WOODEN DOOR MAT

This time of year I’m constantly telling the kids to wipe, stomp, clean or scrape their feet before coming inside.   Sadly, our poor doormats are taking the brunt of this and are looking the worst for it.  I’ve decided it’s time for them all to get replaced with these quick and easy DIY doormats.  Simple to make and even simpler to customize in a rainbow of colors.

MATERIALS

Fourteen 2”x2” boards cut to 18” long

Twenty-six 1” wood beads

Nylon cord

Drill and 1/4” bitPaint or stain (optional)

STEPS

Drill a 1/4” hole 3” from each end of the wood slats

Once drilled, paint slats if desired.  I used a translucent spray paint so the grain would show through.  A stain would be nice or just leaving it natural is a great look too

Cut a piece of cord 3.5 yards long.  If the ends fray, hold a match to each end for a second to make it easier to work with.  Thread one end through one hole and the other end through the other hole on your first slat and pull taut.

Then thread each through a bead, then through another slat and so on and so forth...

When you reach the end, tie the ends together into a knot and cut off the excess.
