Home and Family 4105 Final Photo Assets

Twice a year, all of the movers and shakers in the home and gift business convene in New York to either show or purchase the newest and hottest items on the market.  I spent a few days walking the aisles and looking for what was hot for my San Francisco store. Here's what I think was new and noteworthy.

JUMBO EDISON BULBS

You've seen the small version  of these in every hipster bar, coffee lounge and clothing store from New York to Laguna Beach.  Now the old fashioned bulbs with the amber glowing filaments are available in super jumbo size!  I thought that these were just amazing, hang a single one over a side table or cluster a bunch of them over a dining table.  The bulbs are as long as 15" and come with an adapter so they fit into any ordinary light socket.  Also available is a beautiful bronze socket with a cloth covered cord that plugs into a regular wall socket.  So with a single bulb and a single socket set you can be as cool as any hipster, and all for less than the price of a regular lamp!

FLIPBOOKIT

This charming kit is a lovely remedy to our hi-tech over-exposer.  The kit comes with an easily assembled craft box, gears, and an old fashioned series of photos of a galloping horse.  Turn the crank, the pages flip, and the horse gallops and gallops.  But wait, there's more!  The best part is you can also buy a custom DIY kit to turn your own 3-5 second video into a Flipbook.  How cool is that!  I see great ideas for birthday videos, new born baby videos - the options are endless.

Okay, maybe it was the silly name 0r the very sophisticated packaging, but I thought these were both elegant and witty.  Each box has three individually wrapped "mints", which are similar to Alka Seltzer tablets.  You drop them into a freshly flushed toilet and they effervesce releasing room scent.  Leave a bowl of them on the back of your potty and let your guests hide the evidence of their visit.

PAINT HANDY

So, there are always lots of fabulous things at the show and then there are just the purely useful.  This is the latter.  A paint tray that is lined with a super absorbent fabric that allows you to pour in 12 oz of paint.  Once the paint is in, you can turn the tray upside down and nary a drop will spill out, even if upside down.  Tap your brush on it and your brush is instantly loaded with paint.  When you're down, squeegee the extra back into the can and rinse the tray under in the sink to use again.  The best part, you can actually put two colors into one tray - so no up and down the ladder when painting trim!
