DIY Country Kitchen Accents

Country-style never really goes out of fashion.  Currently it's having a resurgence with a more rustic bent.  Here are a few easy projects to bring some of that rustic elegance into your kitchen.

BUTCHER PAPER MEMO BOARD

Materials:- Roll of butcher paper- Wood dowel length of paper roll and small enough to fit inside- Screw in curtain finial set- Curtain wall bracket setPre-drill a small hole into each end of the dowel - this will keep it from splitting.  Screw in finial.  Slide on roll of butcher paper.  Screw in second finial. Attach brackets to wall and hang paper roll.  It's that easy.

CHICKEN WIRE POT RACK

Materials:-1"x6" boards - mine were from an old pallet- Chicken Wire- Wood joiners

Cut your boards into desired length and arrange into a rectangle, nice side down.  Hammer in wood joiners where the boards come together.  These are really easy to use, you just tap the pointy sides in with a hammer.  I used about 3 or 4 per seam.  Once your rectangle is in place, cut your chicken wire to fit and use a staple gun to staple it down all around, again, on the back side.  Flip it over and hang!

KNIFE RACK

Materials:- Board- 1" Forstner drill bit- 1" super duper strong magnets- Glue

The Forstner bit is key because it will let you drill a pretty wide hole while keeping the whole thing the same depth.  You want to figure out just how deep you can go without breaking through the other side and mark it with a piece of tape. It's helpful, but not necessary, to draw a grid on the wood to help with your drilling.  Drill baby, drill until you've got the back covered.  Take your magnets, stack them, and fit as many as possible into each hole.  I put 4 into each opening.  Depending on the exact fit, you may need to add a drop of glue to hold them in, mine fit just fine without.  Now hang and use. How great is that!
