Ruler Growth Chart

Coco's about to turn 3 and she's quite obsessed with measuring things....especially herself. So, this year I'm upgrading her growth chart to something that we can use for years AND looks great in the house.  While I'm at it, I'm going to make two more for the twins!

 MATERIALS

10"X6'x1" Pine Board

Wood Stain

1/4" Black Art Tape

1/8" Black Art Tape

Set of Black 2 1/4" Numbers

 STEPS

Stain your board.  I chose a medium brown, but a lighter stain would also work.

I think I'll do the ones for the twins in two different tones so each kid's will be a little unique.

Measuring along the edge of the board, mark 1" increments in pencil for its entire length.

You'll need to measure how far from the floor you'll be hanging your ruler. We've got 4" baseboards, so I want to hang the ruler at 6" above the floor.  In that case, my ruler will start at 6".  Using the 1" marks as a guide, go back and draw lines for your inch marks.  I made my regular inch marks 2" long, the three inch marks 2 1/2" long, the six inch mark 3" long and the foot markers 4" long.  Using a square helps to easily make the lines straight and the right length.

Once you've got all of your pencil lines, go back and add tape along the pencil lines and cut with scissors.

Use the 1/4" tape for the 3", 5" and 1' marks and the 1/8" tape for the other inch marks.

Add numbers alongside the foot markings.

I also added Coco's name and EST 2011, which I didn't grab a photo of. Once you're finished give the whole think a protective coat of polyurethane which will make sure the tape and numbers stay permanantly affixed.

Can't wait to get it hung and get measuring!
