Raven Frame Wreath

I don’t know if it was Edgar Allen Poe or Tippy Hedren that officially made birds an official sign of Halloween for me. Either way, they’re an oddly elegant way to give the season a nod without hanging a skeleton on the front door. This wreath will only take an old frame and a craft store crow to get your spook on!

STEPSPaint your frame orange. You could obviously do a different color. If you’ve got an ornate old frame you could just leave it be. Personally I like the orange because I think it gives the arrangement a modern clean vibe which is not all that common in the world of spook decor.

Find a good branch. You want one that is taller than the frame with a couple of good arms coming off of it.

Attach the branch to the frame using the jute rope. Wrap it several times so it becomes a design element, not purely structural. Tie it off behind the frame so it’s a nice clean look. Snip off tips of the branch that stick out far beyond the frame.

Attach your crow using hot glue. Depending on the angle of your branch and the crow it may take some maneuvering to make it look natural. I had to take one foot and push it into the body of the crow so she’d sit right.

To hang the frame use a ribbon. The softness and elegance of ribbon is a nice balance to the rustic quality of the branch and the twine.
