Home Office Redux!

I'll be the first one to admit I have a messy desk, really messy.....like so messy I would never show it to you.  So, when I had the opportunity to help another creative business person redo her workspace, I was delighted.  On Saturday's episode of Home Made Simple on OWN I tackle this, hmmm...shall we say, cluttered space. The first thing one needs to look at when re-doing a home office is how the person works.  Some people are filers and others are stackers.  For filers the space needs to be designed with lots and lots of file space, both in cabinets and also on top of the desk for easy access.  Other people, this home owner and moi, for instance, are stackers.  For these people you need lots of horizontal space for all the differing stacks.  That being said, there still needs to be file storage, just not as much and not as accessible. On Home Made Simple, I always look for solutions that everyone can do themselves and on a budget.  This office is no different.  Instead of an expensive custom built desk, I turned to ready made kitchen cabinets -- lower cabinets are perfect for holding files and printers and then I sat upper cabinets on the desk which are perfect for books, binders and the like.  The desk itself - simply two closet doors set end to end on the lower cabinets.  A cleat in the middle and some brackets along the wall keep everything stable - thanks to the amazing carpenter Amy Devers for that!Tune in to Home Made Simple on Saturday morning at 9a/8c on the Oprah Winfrey Network to get more details and other great tips.  You can also watch a clip from this weeks show atwww.homemadesimple.com.
