Carrot Centerpiece

Poor spring vegetables, they're always getting the short end of the stick when it comes to attention in the spring.  Why not give them equal billing in your next arrangement.  Here I've mixed lovely blossoms and even lovelier spring root vegetables.

MATERIALS

Wet floral foam

Floral wire

Floral tape

Bunch of veggies (carrots, beats, radishes, parsnips - any will do)

Flowers

Vase

STEPS

Use floral tape to create a grid on top of your vase that will support the foam.  Leave a large enough space in the middle that you can insert your vegetables.

Soak your floral foam as per instructions.  On the underside, scoop out a divot large enough to cover the stubs of your root veggies.

Tie your veggies into a tight bunch using string or wire and then wrap a longer piece of wire tightly around the bunch.  Snip off the excess greens.

Wrap the ends of the wire up and around the foam and secure on top.  The trick here is to get the wire tight enough to support the veggies, but not so tight as to cut through the foam.  Rest the foam on the tape grid on top of the vase.

Arrange your flowers making sure to hide the foam.  I picked up some of the colors of the veggies in the flowers so that it all tied together visually and looked like one arrangement....the flowers still get top billing, but at least the veggies made it out of the vegetable bin!
