Easy Peasy Egg Nog Ice Cream

Egg nog. Ice cream. Easy. These are some of my favorite words, so when I get to combine them into one dessert - oh yeah! Now, I’d heard tell of the tale of being able to pour store bought egg nog right into your ice cream maker….to me, all that would make was frozen grocery store egg nog. I pondered making egg nog from scratch, but, yeah, with three kids running around 5 days before Christmas….that just wasn’t going to happen. So I decided to come up with a hybrid: a base of store bought egg nog, and then jhuzhing it up with a few additions to create rich, silky, yummy ice cream that doesn’t need to be cooked, takes 5 minutes to get into the ice cream maker, and, most importantly, tastes like the holidays!

INGREDIENTS

(Sorry for the incomplete picture…someone was anxious to get started!)

  • 2 Cups Egg Nog

  • 1 Cup Heavy Cream

  • 1/2 Cup Sugar

  • 3 Tablespoons Spiced Rum (Bourbon works well too! You can also leave it out, but it helps with the creaminess)

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg

RECIPE

  • Mix all ingredients together in a mixing bowl with a whisk or wooden spoon until the sugar has dissolved.

  • Pour into ice cream maker as per your maker’s instructions. I mixed mine for 25 minutes. (A little shout out to my Kitchen Aid ice cream attachment - got it for free on a giveaway table and this was the the first time I used it. All i can say is that there’s going to be a lot more home made ice cream around the house now!)

  • Scrape soft ice cream into a container with a lid and freeze for a few hours if you like firm ice cream. If you’re more of a soft serve person - feel free to dig right in!
