Hard Candy Christmas....Lights

These fun  holiday lights are perfect for a kid's room, a kitchen or any place you want to add a little sweetness...and they're very easy (and inexpensive) to make!

MATERIALS

Deli To-Go containers

Plastic soda bottles

Mod Podge

Food coloring

Cellophane wrap

Scotch tape

LED holiday lights

Cut your deli containers in half.  You'll just be using the clear tops, so the rest can go in the recycling.   You'll be using two tops for each square candy, so count accordingly. For the soda bottles, cut a hole in the top and the bottom big enough to fit the socket of the lights through.

Pour some Mod Podge into a plastic cup and add a little food coloring and stir until completely incorporated.  Keep adding and mixing until you get the color you'd like.  Make as many or as few colors as meets your fancy. Paint the outside of the deli containers and soda bottles and let dry

Run your lights into the container, leave about 10 bulbs inside and run the other end out the other side.  Place a second lid on top and use scotch tape to hold it closed.  Decide how close you'd like them, skip that many bulbs (I skipped three between each candy), and fill the next candy.  For the soda bottles, feed the cord in one end and out the other leaving 10 bulbs inside.

Once your string is complete, go back and wrap each candy with cellophane. Just cut a large square of cellophane center the candy on it, wrap the cellophane around it, gather the ends and use another piece of tape (or a small twist tie) to hold it closed on each end.

I hung our candy string along a white garland so the colors popped.  Who says a hard candy Christmas isn't fun!
